RELATING TO RELATIVES

Deal tactfully with your relatives as they play an important role in making your marriage a success.
For the newly-married couple, their own welfare and well-being should be the chief consideration. The bride especially should tactfully discourage relatives from meddling in her life. Smilingly, she should refuse bits of unasked-for advice and avoid blatant attempts at gate crashing into their house.
Many relatives may be mischief-makers who poison the young bride’s mind with tales. She should show her displeasure overtly and let them know that she is not interested in giving ear to them.
The newly-married partners should eschew all inclinations to make distinctions between “your” relatives and “my” relatives. Treat all of them with equal affection and regard so that the distinctions blur.
Relatives of newly-married couples too should be advised to give the young ones their space where they can work on their new relation¬ship without interference. Relatives should bring happiness to the newly-founded household and not inadvertently create rifts and ill-will. We can choose our friends but not our relatives.
This makes it all the more imp¬ortant to see that they do not put a spoke in a couple’s married life.
