DOUBLE BONUS

When your twins are all grown up you forget the early years when they were a handful…
WITH TWINS, YOU CONSTANTLY INNOVATE TO MAKE YOUR LIFE A BIT LESS STRESSFUL.

Two hungry babies’ two piercing screams two perfect little answers to all of our dreams. Double the bottles Double the toys Double the diapers And double the joys - This poem must have been written in that moment of fleeting tranquility when the little ones were fast asleep and looked like adorable angels! Oth¬erwise, penning doggerel is the last thing on a new mothers mind, at least in the first frantic years.

In the making
Found you’re carrying twins? Don’t panic! Just follow the doctor’s advice.
• The first three months are crucial. Avoid heavy lifting, climbing, and hectic activity. Bed rest isn’t needed unless the doctor says. But avoid intercourse.
• Ultrasounds every four weeks are recommended after 14-16 weeks. If
The babies are in separate sacs, there’s less cause for worry. But if they share a sac, a number of complications can arise (especially if they share a pla¬centa). For instance, sometimes one twin develops faster, which can mean the other isn’t allowed to grow!
• Watch out for any tell tale pressure in the belly (near the uterus). Inform the doctor at once if you feel any.
• What should you eat? ‘If well-wishers had their way, restricted to just one activity - eating! Thankfully, sensible doctor told not to go overboard just because you carried twins. Eat small portions of protein-rich food, with salads and fruit.
Bust the myth “eat a lot: you’re eat¬ing for three”. Eat several small meals. Your diet must include milk and dairy products, lots of greens, fruits, nuts, grains and pulses, and vitamin and mineral supplements recommended by your obstetrician. Fat should be consumed in very small quantities.
