KEEPING THE KITCHEN
SPARKLING CLEAN
Utensils are best washed in convenient lots. The usual practice of soaping all utensils together and then washing them, results in soap drying on the utensils, especially in the summer. These stains do not come out easily unless extra water and labour are used.
Utensils in which non-vegetarian food or eggs have been cooked should not be mixed up with other dirty utensils. Otherwise the smell of non-vegetarian food will affect the latter. These utensils may be washed last.
After washing utensils, the hands should be washed in lukewarm water and the fingers rubbed with lemon peel. The use of a hand moisturiser, cold cream or Vaseline is beneficial.
Washing utensils after every meal is not a pleasant job, but is good exercise for the fingers and the eyes. The sparkle of well-washed utensils is pleasing and often wins compliments from visitors.
It is desirable that the gas-stove be cleaned after each meal with a cloth dipped in hot water and then dried with a clean napkin to keep its original shine intact.
Kitchen napkins play a vital role in keeping the kitchen clean. These are frequently used for a variety of purposes, say, puffing up chapattis, drying wet hands and greasy fingers, picking up hot utensils, dusting etc.
