KEEPING THE KITCHEN SPARKLING CLEAN

Kitchen napkins play a vital role in keeping the kitchen clean. These are frequently used for a variety of purposes, say, puffing up chapattis, drying wet hands and greasy fingers, picking up hot utensils, dusting etc. The state of these napkins reflects the standard of hygiene and cleanliness in the home. Dirty, stained and soiled napkins show poorly on the Homemaker. Regrettably, the majority of the homes in our country are guilty of negligence in this regard. It is suggested that separate napkins should be used for each purpose instead of having one or 2 multipurpose napkins.
The napkins should be of good, absorbent paper, toweling, cotton cloth or casement in sizes between 8″ by 8″ and 15″ by 15″. The preferred shades are cream, fawn, white or off-white.
The napkins should be placed in napkin rings and kept where they are needed most. For example, the napkins for drying wet hands need to be near the sink where utensils, crockery, vegetables and other things are generally washed.
Use a separate napkins meant for this purpose only. Do not dry your wet hands by wiping them on your apron, dupatta, scarf, dress or the duster or napkin meant (or some other purpose.
In summer, one napkin for drying wet hands may suffice, but in winter more may be required as a napkin takes longer to dry. The damp napkin should be properly washed, placed in the sun for drying and replaced with a dry one.
A clean napkin should be used for cuffing up chapattis. A separate one s required for wrapping these up in the casserole, chapatti box or Tiffin BOX. These wrappers absorb moisture when the box is closed.
There should be separate napkins for drying washed crockery and utensils and for picking up hot utensils from the gas stove. Every home needs to nave 6 or more napkins for each of the above purposes. Since these are used very often, they should be replaced every 2-3 months.
