THE PROCESS OF FIXING THE DIRECTIONS

During the last century some constructions have been taken up in Tirupati against the principles of vastu. But buildings have been constructed basing north as the standard from ancient times. But then, the compass of modern times with needle pointing north was not there. They based their calculations basing on the North Pole star. They put two poles at a distance by optic observation and drew a straight line in between them and fixed the north direction based on North Pole star.
Apart from this there is another method in determining north based on east and west. The method was this: if the sunrise position alone is taken, it varies in the first half of the year from second half of the year. So north direction was determined in this way.  Every year on March 21st and September 21st the sun crosses the equator. That is on the days of vernal equinox and autumnal equinox. In those days a staff is fixed in the ground. Tying a rope to it and with the help of it they drew a circle. From the following day from 6 A.M to 7 A.M the shadow of the staff on the west side was measured. They used to put a mark on the circle
