Exploring water: Everyone loves to play in water. This can be turned into an educational experience at rivers or beaches. Draw their attention to water bodies, how water is getting polluted by human actions, drying up of water sources, etc. Explain the need and ways to conserve water. In this way you can sensitise them to problems of the environment.
Entertainment-cum enrichment:
During your holiday whenever you find time and the children are getting bored, you can keep them entertained as well as engaged with their favourite books or games. Join them in solving puzzles, arranging building blocks, etc. These develop concentration and provide mental exercise. Various mathematical concepts can be taught with the hands, with cards, etc.
Testing new recipes: While on a holiday allow your family to taste the special food items available at the place. Collect the recipes and even try cooking them at home.
Back home: Encourage the little ones to write letters to your relatives or their friends about the places they have visited. Is it not intriguing to see them drawing a word picture of the places? Keep holiday photos, souvenirs or other such items at a place where they have easy access to them so that they can look at them during their leisure time. The knowledge the children gain during a trip stays with them. The change you provided from their routine of schoolwork goes a long way in sustaining their interest, eagerness and enthusiasm to learn more. More than that, they get to know nature in a natural way. And as a parent your reward is the satisfaction of having spent a holiday fruitfully.
