Sun is the source of all creation on the earth. Sun is the main stay of life on the earth. Without sun there is no life and livelihood. That is why the sun is worshipped as god. That is why prayers are offered to him every morning. Man who put faith in him as god has come to realize today how he became god.

The diameter of the Sun is 8,65,980 miles. Flames rise up without let up with a speed of 200 to 300 miles a second. The Sun releases 3.7X10 26 watts energy per second into the universe. However, our planet Earth receives a very tiny fraction of this energy. The sun rays that are so received sustain our life on the earth. The plants and vegetation on the earth receive sustenance from this fraction of energy supplied to them. Water gets vaporized by these rays and that vapor forms into clouds and these clouds rain. Not only have that, according to the accounts of scientists the sun rays had many beneficial effects on the human body. They contain many properties which bestow health. Sun rays give D vitamin to the body. This vitamin controls diabetes as proved by science. The intrinsic power of sun rays revealed itself to mankind as man’s thinking advanced. The power of sun rays is Vastu.

Though the sun rays appear white to naked eye they are composed of seven colors. Violet, Indigo blue, green, yellow orange and red. These colors have great power. In Nature cure the sun rays are by a process of reflection mirrors, used to cur some types of diseases. Sun rays destroy insects. They have immense power. That is why our ancestors presented Surya Namaskaras for health.

As science progressed Man began to construct houses for residence. The five elements of Nature are water, earth, light, and space. Man began to formulate rules to coordinate man in house construction. In the coarse of man s life house is the central point. So mould it into a predominant power a method in required and that is Vastu.

It is discovered that the piece of land extending from east to west is the best and termed as “Purusha Stana” (Maseuline site), it may be so termed because of the direct touch of sun rays. To allow direct touch of sun rays without any hindrance, tall trees or tall buildings are forbidden in the eastern side of the buildings and eastern side should have more vacant area than in the west this is so ordained by vastu scholars.

We shall receive the benefits of sun rays falling in the east yard or on the house. It there are any trees in the northeast of our house, they will receive the benefit. How? Sun rays falling on the leaves of the plants and trees will help them undergo the process of photosynthesis. Plants and trees get carbohydrates through.

But We humans, do not have that much benefit of the treasure on the western side we will receive the direct benefits of the process of photosynthesis and the sunrise. The benefits are innumerable. So trees and plants have to be avoided on the eastern side. But then, for one in the east two are to be planted in the south and west. If there is no room enough in the south or west or backward, trees should be grown on the high way.

Why should the trees be on the west? To, keep away atmosphere pollution and since trees give sustenance to us. If people go on constructing houses in the west and south, without trees, it means we are bringing our own doom. There is already the threat of greenhouse effect trees absorb the carbon dioxide emitted by us and supply oxygen. If there are no trees this carbon dioxide will remain unutilized and oxygen will not be produced which is process of photosynthesis. The results will be worsening heat on the globe and danger of the direction of life. That is the greenhouse effect. That is why trees should be grown in the west and south by every household. That will be of immense help not only to the house holder but also to the world.

What is the intention behind leaving more vacant area in the northern side of the house? This also is to ensure the importance of sun-rays. The period from 21 December to 20 June sun will more towards north. It is called Uttarayana. The sun will move towards south from 21 June to 20 December which period is called Dakshinayana.

Such is the importance of Uttarayana. Sun light will be abundant during this period. To reap the benefits of it more vacant area should be there on the north than in the south. Experienced people have decided that it should be so. If more vacant area is left on the southern side it will curse the house, industry, hut or a temple on that side to down. This is a fact proved by vastu.
