Wedding Shopping

Complete the shopping and printing of cards at least a month before the day so that hey can be posted in good time.

Make a rough estimate of the number of guests you will have to put up. If you cannot accommodate them in your own house, or in those of your friends and relatives, decide on some close by guest-house or hotel and book the necessary rooms well in advance.

List the provisions you need for the guests and shop for the provisions in bulk from whole sale markets. Items like rice, sugar, wheat, daals, cooking oils, pickles, condiments and spices should be stored well so that pests do not harm them.

NECESSARY PURCHASES
Buy the needed mattresses, rajais, blankets, sheets, towels, toilet soaps etc for the guests. All this should be clone well in advance so that later time can be devoted to other pressing matters.

The shopping for the wedding clothes of the bridal couple and gifts for the other honoured relatives and friends should be carefully planned. Many far-sighted parents start putting together the girl’s trousseau from year’s ahead, making good use of annual discount and festival sales.

If there is a marriageable child in your home, do not wait for the wedding to be fixed before making the purchases of saris and suit material. Whenever reputed sales are announced make your purchases and store them away. Prices spiral upward every year.

Always buy the saris and other dress materials from reputed shops,, preferably retail stores. Do not buy “seconds” or damaged stocks, however tempting the price, as it could create embarrassment and ill will.

It is better to pay a little more and buy good stuff. Wedding gifts should always be of impeccable quality.

Keep a separate file of the bills and receipts of your purchases. In case of some problem, you can always take a purchase back, if your invoice is intact. Refuse to take any garment if the shop is reluctant to give a receipt of purchase.’
